Price: I picked these up on clearance for $8.00 @ Walmart
Impressions: These seem to be made really well, the fabric is durable – and they’re not just swim trunks. There are no pockets, no zippers or metal fasteners. There is a full velcro-zipper with a rubberized closure at the top. There are normal gym-short style nylon drawstrings to help cinch the shorts up. Design-wise they’re about what you expect for flashy MMA shorts. There’s a giant skull on the left leg with some tribal design behind it, and on the right leg it’s just cage fencing.
Product in use: I’ve used these in a muay thai class and a no-gi BJJ class. Since I do multiple styles a night, I’m not bringing a change for each unless it’s Gi-night. They stayed up and didn’t require any adjustment during muay thai, there was absolutely no restriction from the shorts themselves – I could kick as high as I normally can and had no loss of movement. They stayed in place during BJJ with me tightening up the drawstrings out of habit before class started. I wore these during bag practice at home as well several times – I did start to notice that the velcro strips were absolutely ripping apart the nylon drawstrings. This is one area where I feel they could improve. For bigger guys like me it was nice to find a pair of shorts that fit though – so I solved the nylon drawstring problem by replacing the strings with something called “para cord” or parachute 550 cord. I’ve had no issues since then. I generally wear compression shorts under them when in class or working out at home.
Pros: Incredible price, no loss of movement, stayed in place, ready for fighting. I like the designs.
Cons: Nylon drawstrings don’t play nice with velcro.
I’d buy more pairs of these in a heartbeat (and I did). I bought 5 different pairs/designs for a total of $40, $43 after site to store shipping. Some other brands shorts you can’t even get a single pair shipped to your door for that much. If you don’t mind having the beater brand I’d recommend going with these. They haven’t let me down yet – and I really don’t care what brand I’m rocking as long as the gear is of quality. This will be my control pair of shorts that I will judge future shorts against.
