This is less of a review and more of a look into why it might be hard to find gear that stands the test of time and quality. I actually discovered one of the companies who I have an in-progress interview with while searching for the ‘perfect gym bag for mma’ – he obviously had the same dilemma as I did but took it to that next level.

Price: $22.00 – 28″ Rattan Sticks
Mfg Description: “Kombat Instruments Ltd.’s sticks are hand cut from Mano rattan, which is the hardest of all the rattans. We offer any custom length or practical diameter. They are twice fire-hardened for strength and even more hardness in a process taught to the owner by his Filipino instructors. This process takes the moisture out of the skin of the rattan, drawing it tight, which gives the desired strength and rigidity. The sticks are then laquered to help preserve them for a longer life. In addition, the ends of the sticks are rounded off slightly after cutting to reduce the sharpness of the edges.
These hand made sticks are the finest and most durable available anywhere.

I received a set of these along with my X-Trainer shin guards which was a nice and unexpected gesture from the folks at RenegadeMMA. Usually when you get something for free it’s usually low quality – that’s not the case here. The material is slightly elastic and are about 118″ long.
I haven’t gotten to use them on anything other than the heavy bag yet along with my Ringside Bag Gloves, They’ve held up well so far – I haven’t needed to wash them yet.
