Review Process

Guidelines for product review:

Who makes the product/? Give company history if applicable.

Who is the product aimed at (professionals, amateurs etc)?

What is the product’s intended use? (Sparring, training, competition)

Initial impressions: This will be impressions based upon the product before use. Will examine for any defects or physical issues and take note/pictures of them. An example would be a loose thread or ripped material. The look/style of the product will be evaluated at this time as well.

Use of the product: I’ll train with the product based on the product’s intended use. If it’s a piece of protective gear I will spar with it, if it’s something I can test on the heavy bag – I will. This phase will generally last one week. I clock in about 4-6 hours in MA classes during the week and will make every possible attempt to test gear in that setting as well.

Pros and cons will be noted after the product is used.

If the product was provided specifically for review at this point I will contact the company with any questions that I may need clarified before my review is posted. This will allow for some degree of a viewpoint into the company as well. If there are no issues this step may not occur, but it is fair to allow a company to defend issues with their product or answer questions in order for the review to be “complete.”

To be fair – I will never request that I keep the gear that may be sent to me for review. This allows me to remain objective in the matter. If the gear is useful to me I may ask to purchase it from the company, otherwise, by default, gear will be returned after review to the company.
