Submission Fight Company – Kids Gi
Shakib over at SubmissionFC (www.submissionfc.com) was one of the first Interviews I had for this site. I recently got in touch with him to ask about his line of belts for kids as my daughter would be getting promoted soon. He offered something we weren’t expecting, a Gi for Sarah and I to review to go along with her new belt. This was awesome to us. Until now she’s been using a century TKD gi and a kataaro kids TKD gi. We bought her a Kataaro judogi but she refuses to wear it because she says it’s uncomfortable to wear in class.

Initial Impressions
This came shipped in a standard double thickness vinyl/plastic mailing bag. Inside the bag was the nicest packaging for a gi that I’ve seen to date amongst all the gis that I’ve received. It’s a thick plastic bag with a closure that has the SubmissionFC logo on it. A few stickers were included as well. The jacket is a single weave and features shoulder patches, trim on the skirt of the jacket and one across the lapel as well. The lapel is ripstop as noted. The same ripstop is used on the pants, and a flat drawstring in included. Shakib noted to me that on the adult Gis youll have a cord. This looks like a great Gi – we’ll be comparing to a Kataaro kids judogi for the purposes of this review.
Build Quality
The gi has reinforcements in the skirt cut, armpits and sleeve openings. The reinforcements are made out of another layer of pearl weave fabric. I wasn’t able to find any missed stitches or loose threads in either the top or pants. The color match between the ripstop and woven fabric is nearly perfect as well. After washing the colors on the ripstop and pearl weave matched as well, which is a problem I’ve seen with other Gis. The gi stopped shrinking after the first washing as well.

Impressions from an 8-year-old (and her dad).
Sarah really likes this gi. We have another gi that she won’t wear because the cut is too slim and the collar is almost choking her on its own. The SubmissionFC gi fits her absolutely perfectly. Before washing the pants were just a little long but afterwards fit great, and same with the jacket – just a little too long before and perfect after washing. I’m highly considering making my next Gi purchase a SubmissionFC gi – which they now sell in A5 for us bigger guys.
A surprise for Sarah..
Sarah was just promoted to yellow belt as well, and she’s got a SubmissionFC yellow belt to go with her gi! They look SHARP together. The belt has your standard black BJJ grading patch and a small submissionFC patch on the other end. The nice thing about the belt is that it’s in that nice stage of being firm but still flexible right out of the bag. Some belts (like my white belt) just get extremely flimsy over time, and I’ve only had mine for 8 months.
If you’re looking for a gi for your kid(s) who are doing BJJ – I would make sure to stop by and check out SubmissionFC’s offerings.
Shakib was awesome and suggested he set up a special code for people reading this review as well! Thanks Shakib!
